CK CAT RESCUE formed in late 2007, somewhat by chance, as my oldest son's (with my help) heartfelt and proactive response to the growing amount of homeless and unwanted cats. We have often visited shelters such as Animal Care & Control and the Humane Society as well as many privately-funded "no-kill" cat rescues and applaud their efforts. Unfortunately, the no-kill shelters are almost always at maximum capacity, and many owners either have their cats put to sleep or, even worse, abandon them, defaulting on their responsibility to protect and nurture these animals.

My son has always felt a deep connection with cats, and I am quite a cat person myself, born with severe allergies to dander but now often told I am turning into "that cat lady". I am constantly preaching to my boys that if they see a need, a hurt, a part of society that desperately needs attention, and if it is in their power to do something (anything, no matter how small), they need to do just that. I can honestly say that I am far more of a talker than a doer, so I was profoundly humbled when my son wanted to really do something, and I have no choice but to support him fully.

My son's dream is to have a large cat shelter and adoption program, a haven if you will, and he was deeply moved by the story he read in the paper about the man who was doing just that with about 200 cats. He imagines fancy cat playgrounds that cats, old and young, would adore, and I can imagine him spending time with each and every one.

Right now we just do the best using only our own time and finances, which can usually just meet our cats needs. Right now, though, because we adopted 2 abandoned cats at the peak of their pregnancy, we have 9 new kittens adding to our group. We are struggling to meet the needs of our family and really need to find forever homes for at least some of cats to keep our heads above water.

Bugsy's Adventures in June...

It may appear that Bugsy does very little by the top two pics, but really he's running and jumping with all of his siblings, getting used to his surroundings outdoors and his other relatives, and adjusting very well to his situation. He can't wait to have a forever home, as he craves individual attention and is definately one of the first to come over and sniff you or nudge into your lap.

Bugsy would be fine with all the attention of being any only cat, but he is rarely seen without his partner in crime, his sister Trixie, so I would love to see the two go together.

Augustus, or "Auggie" as we call him is a sweet little man. He is definately a "mama's boy", and you can often find him nursing or following around either Puddin or Rain. He is very friendly and does not mind being held.

What Spike's Been Up To:

Spike has spent most of the beginning of June learning to be outside with his siblings and other housemates (that he is meeting for the first time). He has taken to the cat house, but prefers to lay sprawled out in the shade getting his beauty sleep. Or he's following around the mommies. Spike stands his own. During the introductions to the other, older cats, Spike was not scared off by the elders' harmless, but territorial, hisses, but instead would respond with an arched back and an adorably ferocious hiss himself. I like this cat. As my husband says, "He's got character, that one."
